Many people believe that the basic issue in marketing your business or yourself is convincing prospects that you have a better product or service. If you have a small market share and you have to battle with larger better financed competitors then your marketing strategy is faulty in the first place. The basic understanding in marketing your business or services is creating a category you can be first in. It is much easier to get into the mind of prospects to be first than it is to be better.
When people become successful, they tend to become less objective. They seem to become unstoppable and often substitute their own judgement for what the market wants. When your brand becomes successful the leadership often assumes that the name is the primary reason for the brands success, so the next step to expand the business is to look for another product or service they can stick the name on. It is usually the opposite, and the name did not make the brand famous. The brand became well known because of the marketing and the value is attached to it.
