The government have announced a variety of one-off payments to stimulate the economy. In most instances no action is required to receive the payments that you may be entitled to and some people may be entitled to more than one payment. All but one of the five available payments will be paid by Centrelink. The tax bonus payment for workers will be paid to eligible recipients by the ATO and where possible into a bank account.

If your bank account details or postal address has changed since you lodged your 2008 tax return, you can update your details by calling the ATO’s automated service on 1300 686 636 by the middle of March. You will be required to quote your tax file number, date of birth and postcode. If you have not yet lodged a tax return for the 2008 income year you should make sure that this has been done by 30 June 2009.

1. Who will receive the Bonus Payment?
   • Taxpayers who have paid tax and
   • Income is below $100,000 and
   • Have lodged their tax return by 30 June 2009
     
2. How much Bonus Payment will each person receive?
   • Bonus Payments will be based on Taxable Income
   • Income up to $ 80,000
     • $900 bonus
   • Income $80,001 - $90,000
     • $600 bonus
   • Income $90,001 - $100,000
     • $300 bonus
   • Income over $100,000
     • No bonus
       
3. When will the Bonus Payment be made?
   • The first round of Bonus Payments will commence in April 2009
     
4. How will the Bonus Payment be received?
   • Payments will be received via mail or as a direct deposit to the account indicated in the 2008 tax return
