Australian Apprenticeships Eligibility Due to the current economic climate the Federal Government is concerned that business cost cutting may lead to many apprentices and trainees losing their job before they are able to complete their training. Please note that the information provided is a guide only for those operating within NSW and QLD. Payment of incentives will be subject to employers and their Australian Apprentices satisfying the eligibility criteria. Details of each incentive should be discussed with apprenticeship consultant. Accredited Broker Certificate IV Course sponsorship via Australian Apprenticeships Program What are Australian Apprenticeships? Australian Apprenticeships are a system of entry level training that allows employers flexibility and choice in training employees in their business. Australian Apprenticeships incorporate all existing apprenticeships and traineeships as well as many new opportunities. Traineeships are open to anyone who is 15 years or older. Training can be delivered on the job by a workplace assessor or at an off-site training institution. An apprenticeship is time based and generally subject to strict award conditions. Apprenticeships usually include off-the-job training through a Registered Training Organisation which is either one day per week or block release. Benefits of an Australian Apprenticeship to your business: Access to Commonwealth Government Incentives. A training wage which reflects the time spent working on-the-job. Access to Government funded training with the flexibility to access training at your workplace or off-site with a Registered Training Organisation. A no obligation probationary period. Payroll tax and workers compensation premium exemptions. (not available in all states) Who can become an Existing Worker Trainee? An employee who has been employed continuously by your company for more than three months full-time or twelve months casual or part-time immediately prior to commencing the traineeship. Employees who hold a Level 3 (Trade) Certificate or above are not eligible to participate.
Procedure 1. Contact Walker & Miller The first step is to contact Accredited Broker to register your interest in the having your staff member's education sponsored by the Australian Apprenticeships Program. 2. Date of Commencement This is the date your Australian Apprentice commenced their Australian Apprenticeship. If you have employed an Australian Apprentice for more than 28 days and still have not completed the Training Contract with your Australian Apprentice, a local Apprenticeships Centre can assist. (Contact Accredited Broker for a local Apprenticeships Centre) 3. Completing the paperwork Your Training Apprenticeship consultant will pay you a visit and assist you and your Australian Apprentice complete all of the paperwork required to establish the Australian Apprenticeship. Your Consultant will help you complete a Training Contract. (This is the document that sets out all terms and conditions of training.) You will also be advised of your rights and obligations under the training contract. These will be submitted to ensure the receipt of your initial government subsidy. 4. Four to six weeks from the Date of Commencement Your Australian Apprentice should receive a letter from the State Training Authority, advising them that their Australian Apprenticeship has been approved. If they have not received an Approval Letter by this point in time, please contact you Training Apprenticeship Consultant. 5. Six months from the Date of Commencement With the Accredited Broker training program the Australian Apprenticeship should have already been completed by now. Your Training Apprenticeship consultant will help you to organise your paper work to ensure you receive your course completion government subsidy.
